We would like to take this opportunity of welcoming back our junior members for another season of hockey in 2008. And a big Melville hello to all our new junior members! As we get closer to the start of the season we will let you know more about the activities for the year.

How to Use HockeyNet
The attached file contains easy to understand instructions on how to enter match results and team lists on HockeyNet after each game.  These results MUST be input within 24 hours of the game being played otherwise the team is subjected to a fine from Hockey WA.  Match results are entered by the team listed first on the fixture, and team selection must be entered by each team, each week - even if your team stays the same each week!
You will be issued with a user name and password to access HockeyNet before the first game, as well as a matchbook in which to record details of each game.  At the end of each game, the Captains and Umpires sign off the game sheet in the matchbook and exchange copies before entering their details on HockeyNet when they get home.
As well as the internet reporting, we also have club reports, which are required for the club to collect game statistics for each player, to determine club awards for games played, and a brief report for inclusion in the club newsletter.  These must be either dropped into the club in the team bag by 5pm each Saturday or emailed to the newsletter editor (address to follow) by Sunday night.
Even if your team is the same every week, you must hit the "save list" button each week to register the team on the system. Please ensure this is done, otherwise the Club has no option but to pass the $25 onto your team each week. We are already receiving fines!!

UMPIRING
Important umpiring info for those looking for umpires - on-line coaching is at hand! For those who are interested in taking up the whistle for the first time, this is an excellent opportunity to learn some new skills - suitable for all ages.
I also have registered our club with the Coloured Shirt Program (CSP) - an initiative from Hockey WA which gives interested (generally younger) new umpires opportunities to start umpiring in a supported environment.  Participants are given a CSP shirt to indicate that they are in their learning phase, a mentor umpire can come along from the Association to supervise and help out with confidence and positioning on field, and a number of other supportive structures. If anyone is interested - please contact me ASAP. I'll be putting more information out next week - so watch this space!
