Dewali Day at Melville Turf
The Sikh Association of Western Australia (SEWA) hold their annual Dewali day at MCHC Turf. It is very much a family event based around hockey, community and some wonderful food. This year MCHC were asked if they would like to field a team and be part of the round robin event held Sunday 30 Sep, on and off the field.
Although our home turf it was very much a SEWA day with MCHC offering great support in Caddy (Bruce Cadd) setting up for a couple of weeks prior and liaising with Gurmeet Singh the SEWA Secretary and organizing lead. Which they organized the playing numbers and advertising of the event and the day before preparing the facilities and more importantly the mobile bar so refreshments would be ready on the day.
What a wonderful day we had Baz Hancock and Caddy running the Bar and Baz further had the turf looking spic and span and even umpired for a stretch. We further supported the effort with umpires and a full Team squad (see photo attached) of 16 + with their families. As usual the MCHC members who assisted without prompting was great. Thanks also to Pat Hall for his usual off field and on field support and also Andy Toogood’s wife Annette for umpiring and the SEWA community for inviting us.
Unfortunately our first playing event and not realizing it was a mixture of young and old we were eliminated within the normal competition and final round. Next year we will know better and invite a couple of young members along but even so a very credible performance by our guys and great support from their families.
The lunch was spectacular, the day beautiful and sunny and the camaraderie between the teams and families brilliant.
What a great day and look forward to doing the same again next year.

The Melville City Hockey Club Presentation Evening is to be held Friday 21st September at Tompkins on Swan,
Commencing at 6.30pm with drinks on the Terrace and then formalities to begin at 7pm.
