2026 Season
Welcome to the 2025 Melville City Hockey Club Hookin2Hockey and Junior 3/4 Season!
Hookin2Hockey (formerly called Minkey) is a modified version of hockey, designed for mixed teams of boys and girls from Pre-Primary to Year 2. Rules are modified to encourage a safe and free-flowing game. Players will be put into a team (generally up to 10 players) with a coach and team manager. Sessions go for one hour (a 30 minute skills/training session, followed by a 30 minute friendly game against another Melville Hookin2Hockey team).
Junior 3/4 (formerly called Grads) is a transitional grade, as the players move from Hookin2Hockey into the Junior competition. J3/4s play in mixed teams of boys and girls from Year 3 & Year 4 on a full-size ground, with a maximum of 11 players per team on ground. Throughout the season they start to learn field positions and further develop their basic skills, with more rules of hockey introduced as the season progresses. Sessions go for 75 minutes (30 minutes of skills development / training, followed by a 45 minute game against another Melville J3/4 team).
Location
Melville Hookin2Hockey and J3/4 training and games take place on the grass fields at the Melville City Hockey Club on Saturday mornings (Morris Buzacott Reserve, Kardinya).

Parent Involvement
The success of our program relies on parent volunteers – particularly in the roles of team coach and team manager. If you are willing and able to coach a team this season, please email the Hookin2Hockey Coordinator. No previous hockey experience is required, it is all about encouraging the kids to have fun and participate. Resources will be provided to assist with teaching basic skills and training drills.
All parents are asked to volunteer by helping with the running of the BBQ/canteen on Saturday mornings. Each team is placed on a roster and is required to help out twice per season.
Team Placements and Requests
As a general rule, teams will be based on 2025 teams. Note that some variation is inevitable to deal with changes in age grades, new players and specific team requests. If you would like your child to be in a particular team, please email the Hookin2Hockey Coordinator after registering your child (by Friday 11 April at the very latest). We will accommodate all requests as best as possible.
Uniforms and equipment
All players are expected to wear the Melville Club uniform that is available at the Uniform Shop, along with sticks and other equipment.
A full list of available gear is available here: Melville Shop.
Please consider our club sponsor Hockey International for all your other hockey needs.
Mouth guards are a compulsory piece of equipment, and the Club policy is that all players should have a mouth guard prior to taking the field for practice or games. Mouth guards are available at your local chemist, or from a specialist dental technician.
Polar Dental will also be providing mouthguard fitting in March at the club.
