Junior Update 2024

Published:

Hello Melville Junior Families
Introducing our new Junior Development Coach
The Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Paul ‘Finn’ Finnie as the 2024 Junior Development Coach. Finn is a highly credentialed coach. He holds a current Level 3 coaching accreditation as well as many seasons of coaching Premier League Hockey and Assistant Coach to the Adelaide Fire – Hockey One.  Finn has made the brave decision to leave his beloved Port Adelaide Hockey Club to join the Maroon Community of Melville Hockey.

Finn has already had great success and impact, coordinating and coaching holiday clinics and one-on-one specialised coaching. The feedback from players has been outstanding! Thank you, Finn!

Please take the time to introduce yourself if you see Finn around the club.
Dates for your Calendar
As always, we will endeavour to keep coaches, parents, managers and players informed of key dates. Please see the dates below for Pre-Season, Training and Round 1 of fixtures.
Any changes to these dates will be communicated via your Year Coordinators.

Pre-Season Training
As per 2023, there will be a ‘Sticks in Action’ Pre-season which is designed and delivered by Finn. The pre-season is open for Years 7-12 and is free of charge. There are two sessions per week for four weeks commencing next week, Tuesday 6 February. To attend Pre-Season, it is essential that you register so that each session can be planned according to numbers and ability levels.

2024 Junior Training
There will not be dedicated grading sessions this year. We will instead have seven weeks of training leading up to Round 1 fixtures. Training sessions are compulsory, and they will be used to inform team selections, however they will be run more consistent with a training session than a trial. Each Year Coordinator will announce their team selections when appropriate for that cohort. All team selections, however, will have taken place before the school holidays.
Please contact your Year Coordinator if you are unable to attend trainings.
